Cote d’Ivoire is the world’s largest producer of cocoa and cashew nuts. It is also a significant producer of palm oil, cotton, pineapples and bananas. Approximately 67% of the Ivorian population depends on the agriculture but the sector faces many challenges, including: post-harvest loss, low quality and poor processing.
“[The AMEA Cote d’Ivoire Local Network] will help professional agricultural organizations improve their structure, manage their resources more efficiently, adopt a quality approach in production, increase their income, expand their business volume and have more credibility vis-à-vis -vis financial institutions to facilitate access to more credit"
Olivier Buyoya, Cote d’Ivoire Country Manager, IFC
AMEA is a global multi-stakeholder alliance of diverse organizations that share belief in the collective and transformative power of increasing the professionalism of farmer organizations and farming as a business. AMEA local networks bring together practitioners at a country-level with the common objective of advancing professional farmer organizations.
The AMEA alliance aims to strengthen the capacity of farmer organizations in Cote d’Ivoire through Global Guidelines, high quality assessment tools and training materials, and a list of local service providers. This local network is an active space to generate new partnerships, share learnings and address key challenges with other agribusiness stakeholders.
“Establishing this alliance… is a unique opportunity to leverage the expertise and experience of specialized organizations and institutions to help producer organizations reach their full potential, to provide quality services to their customers and to improve the visibility of agricultural products from Côte d'Ivoire"
